Outside Sales Representative

Pay $70,000/year base salary plus commission

Rice Lumber Company is looking for a motivated Outside Sales Representative to join our growing team. This role focuses on building strong relationships with local contractors and helping them successfully complete their projects by providing the right materials, advice, and support.

If you have a background in construction, building materials, or contractor sales and enjoy working directly with customers in the field, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As an Outside Sales Representative, you’ll work closely with contractors to support their projects from planning through completion.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with local contractors and builders

  • Identifying new sales opportunities through job site visits, calls, and networking

  • Preparing quotes, estimates, and material take-offs

  • Assisting customers with product selection and project planning

  • Coordinating with sales support and yard teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment

  • Following up on sales leads and maintaining consistent customer communication

  • Helping contractors stay on schedule by ensuring timely material deliveries

  • Staying informed on product updates, market trends, and new building solutions

  • Meeting or exceeding sales and profitability goals

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate brings a combination of industry knowledge, sales ability, and strong customer relationships.

Qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of building materials and construction practices required

  • Prior sales or customer service experience required
  • Experience estimating building materials or completing take-offs required
  • Ability to read blueprints required
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Basic math skills including geometry and fundamental arithmetic
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Comfortable prospecting and developing new business through calls and job site visits
Drive-Thru Warehouse Associate (Seasonal Position)

Pay starting at $23/hr

Seasonal Position: Looking to hire for a summer position April 1st - November 10th with the possibility of full-time employment.

Rice Lumber is looking for a motivated, positive team member who enjoys hands-on work, helping customers, and taking initiative. This role is essential to keeping our drive-thru warehouse running smoothly while delivering excellent customer service.

What You’ll Do

As a member of our team, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist customers with lumber and building materials
  • Deliver top notch customer service
  • Build and stage loads for pick-up
  • Keep the lumber yard clean, organized, and well stocked
  • Ensure all outgoing materials are properly checked and invoiced
  • Communicate clearly with customers and operations leadership
  • Take on additional responsibilities to support the team as needed

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an individual who has the following qualifications:

  • Physically able to lift at least 100 lbs and work on your feet, indoors and outdoors, year-round
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks
  • Proactive problem-solver with a strong work ethic
  • Willing to learn and operate equipment, including heavy machinery and a chop saw (training and certification provided)
  • Building material or construction knowledge (preferred but not required)

Schedule

Summer Hours (April – November)
Monday–Friday schedule plus two Saturdays per month (8:00 AM–12:00 PM) during the busy building season.

Delivery Driver (Non-CDL): Flatbed & Box Truck

Pay starting at $24.50/hr

We are is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Delivery Driver to support our daily operations.

This is a local driving position with consistent hours ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, working outdoors, and being part of a team that supports building projects across Vermont.

In this role, you’ll drive a variety of delivery vehicles, including flatbed trucks, box trucks, and small delivery vehicles, to ensure customers receive their materials accurately, safely, and on time.

What You’ll Do

As a Delivery Driver at Rice Lumber Company, you’ll play an important role in making sure contractors and homeowners receive the materials they need for their projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely operate flatbed trucks, box trucks, and small delivery vehicles
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload lumber and building materials with care
  • Deliver materials to local homes, contractors, and job sites
  • Verify and complete delivery and pickup orders accurately
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain delivery paperwork and required documentation
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and job-site personnel
  • Work closely with the yard and operations team to coordinate accurate and timely deliveries
  • Assist with load building, yard tasks, and general operations when needed

Vehicles used may include:

  • 16 ft Hino Box Truck
  • 16 ft Flatbed Truck
  • 12 ft F-550 Flatbed Truck
  • Small delivery trucks for local routes

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Qualifications include:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Delivery, flatbed, or box truck driving experience preferred
  • Knowledge of building materials or construction job sites is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work outdoors in all seasons
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to verify orders accurately
  • Strong commitment to safety and following traffic laws
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Willingness to assist with load building and support the team when needed

Schedule

Winter (November – April)
Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts

Summer (April – November)
Monday–Friday schedule plus two Saturdays per month (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) during the busy building season.

CDL Delivery Driver (Boom Truck)

Pay $28 - 32/hr depending on experience and overtime opportunities

We’re seeking a reliable Boom Truck Delivery Driver to deliver building materials safely and efficiently to job sites. This is a local CDL driving position serving job sites throughout Vermont, no long-haul routes, and you’ll be home every night.This role is ideal for someone with experience operating boom trucks, handling construction materials, and providing excellent customer service on-site.

What You’ll Do

As a member of the Rice Lumber delivery team, you’ll play an important role in making sure contractors and homeowners receive the materials they need safely and on time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely operate a boom truck to deliver lumber and building materials to residential and commercial job sites
  • Load, unload, and securely place materials using the boom arm and other equipment
  • Ensure deliveries are accurate and materials are handled carefully to prevent damage
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe vehicle operation
  • Maintain delivery logs and required documentation
  • Provide professional, courteous service to contractors and customers on job sites
  • Coordinate with the yard and operations team to ensure accurate and timely deliveries
  • Take on additional duties as needed to support the team
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and yard tasks when needed

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

  • CDL Class B license required, with a clean driving record
  • Boom truck or construction material delivery experience preferred
  • Knowledge of building materials or construction job sites is a plus

CDL Delivery Driver (Moffett Truck)

Pay $26.50 - $30/hr

We are seeking a dependable CDL Delivery Driver to deliver lumber and building materials to local job sites using a Moffett-mounted forklift truck. This is a local CDL driving position serving contractors and homeowners throughout Vermont, no long-haul routes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, operating equipment, working outdoors, and providing excellent service on job sites.

What You’ll Do

As a Moffett Delivery Driver, you’ll help ensure contractors and homeowners receive building materials safely and on schedule.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate a Moffett truck with mounted forklift to deliver and place materials directly on construction job sites
  • Load, transport, and unload lumber, windows, doors, and building materials safely
  • Use the Moffett forklift to place materials accurately and prevent product damage
  • Assist with load building and material preparation when needed
  • Verify delivery orders and ensure special-order items arrive in excellent condition
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain delivery logs and required paperwork
  • Provide professional, courteous service to contractors and customers
  • Work closely with the yard and operations team to coordinate efficient deliveries
  • Assist with yard tasks when needed to support daily operations

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • CDL Class B license required with a clean driving record
  • Moffett truck or construction material delivery experience preferred
  • Knowledge of building materials or job-site processes is a plus
  • Ability to lift at least 100 lbs and work outdoors in all seasons
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to verify delivery orders
  • Commitment to safe driving and proper load handling
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently
  • Willingness to assist with loading, unloading, and yard tasks when needed
